New York, NY – Renaissance Macro Research (“RenMac”) is pleased to announce that Pete Ward has joined the firm in the newly created role of Head of Metals and Mining Research.
Pete joins RenMac as a Managing Director, with over two decades of experience providing research on equities tied to natural resources. His expertise in the mining industry is comprehensive, spanning copper, gold, iron ore, coal, bauxite, potash, and phosphates.
Pete’s sector-based fundamental equity research will be the first in RenMac’s history. He will also publish commodity price forecasts, which will give his work additional significance for macro research outside of the Metals and Mining sector.
Jeff deGraaf, Chairman and Head Technical Analyst of RenMac, stated, “We are very excited to have Pete join the firm. RenMac excels at analyzing the macro impact of commodity trends, and Pete’s unique coverage will allow us to delve further into that area with his commodity price forecasts. We think it’s a winning combination and we’re eager to roll it out to our clients.”
Steve Hash, RenMac’s President and Chief Operating Officer, commented, “Having worked with Pete for nearly 17 years, I believe he is uniquely suited to lead this evolution in RenMac’s product offerings. Pete’s distinguished work and client service will be an outstanding complement to our current products.”
Mr. Ward was employed by Lehman Brothers/Barclays from 1994 to 2011. At that firm, he built and led the global Metals and Mining research teams, with over 20 analysts covering the sector. From 2011 to 2015, Pete was a Managing Director at Jefferies covering the North American Metals and Mining industry.
Pete has earned a spot on the prestigious Institutional Investor All-American Research Team 13 times – every single time he competed. Most recently, Pete was ranked a Third Team member in 2014. He was ranked number 1 in 2005 and 2006. In 2010, he was ranked number 1 in stock-picking for Metals and Mining by the Financial Times. He was also ranked number 2 out of over 1,800 US sell-side analysts in that same poll.
Pete is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds an MBA from the University of Rhode Island as well as a BA in Economics from Furman University.
